Sharing folders between Win2k, sp 2, and WinNt, sp6a. In a simple home network, 2 PCs, I am trying to set sharing so that both PC can read a folder of a similar name on both C drives. I can ping both ways between the PCs. After much work (and luck) I have got Winnt to map to a folder on Win2k. But the other way simply will not map (nor will Net use work). I get a "The Drive could not be mapped because no network was found."

Research has found that my Dell H266 did have a problem with the Server Service on the Control Panel would not start, but I have started that service. I also found that I should enable the "Guest" account in User Management, which I did on WinNt. Still thes measures are not adequate.

Not really sure if Win2k or WinNt at fault as far as the mapping goes. But, strangely, the WinNt which can map to Win2k seems to be missing the Sharing tab under the properties. This is a really old PC with an old copy of WinNt. To try and resolve my issue, I have upgraded to the latest service pack for WinNt. However, I am loath to upgrade the WinNt to Win2k because this ancient Dell H266 has only 64M of RAM, which because of the propritary nature of the RAM and motherboard, I believe I can never upgrade.

I think I have added all the protocols needed. Both PCs have NetBUI added and the Win2k has the File and Print Sharing for MS Network added. I could not find a fimilar protocol to add for WinNt. So, I believe I have all the protocols I need. So, anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

You don't need netbeui and TCP/IP. Sounds like something wrong on NT machine (what do you see in network neighborhood/my network places from the 2 machines - I'm presuming both in same workgroup, same IP address range btw). Are Computer Browser and Server services running on NT machine? Why wasn't Server service running before? Does it start with machine?

With NT/2k setup with normal defaults, this should jut work, assuming services running and IP addresses/workgroup configured correctly (with something shared on both machines) - doesn't event matter about enabling guest account - you should just get user/password prompt for share where you can supply valid details for target machine.
