Sharepoint and documents

Our company has its own intranet where all documents and templates are stored.
Is their any way to list(link?) key docs and templates on Sharepoint w/ having to upload them to the sharepoint server (thus duplicating them and causing confusion when they need to be edited>

You can use a links web part. In addition, you may create an web page that list the content of a folder and then use the page viewer web part to display the contents of the folder (kinda like explorer view in SharePoint)
