Sharepoint Agent recommendations needed.

Has anyone out there used the Sharepoint agent with BE 10? I would like for someone to tell me that it works before I purchase it. Also, Is there another way that I can backup the sharepoint databases without an agent, barring taking it offline and backing it up cold.

I run both the SQL server jobs for backup and maintenance and the Sharepoint backup and restore utility. This is backed up to disk and then I use Veritas BE to move the backed up data to tapes.
