Is there anyway to turn off the shared workspace pane on only certain office documents? I can turn them off in Office but it effects every document.

No, but maybe you could have a macro that when the document opens "Ctrl+F1" is used which opens the task pane, and attach the macro to the documents you want to have the task pane.
