Hi,

Thank you in advance for reading this!

I cannot access a shared printer. I have a home network, an XP pro PC that is hard wired to linksys router where I am sharing a local printer; an XP home laptop PC connecting via wireless connection. I can browse to the internet on both. But I am trying to setup XP home to print to the shared printer but I cannot set it up. It says I do not have rights to the XP PRO PC But XP Pro can see XP HOME.

How can I give XP HOME rights and access to XP PRO?
How Can I properly setup the printer to XP Home?

Please help! Thank you.

Add the username and password of the laptop to the XP Pro. Add the XP Pro username and password to the laptop.
Reboot both.

This will probably be sufficient. In any case you might consider adding the printer as a local printer:

1. Start the Printers and Faxes Wizard. Then click File, Server Properties, Ports
2. Click Add a port, select "Local port", then click New port
3. Enter the full \\Share_Server\Printer_sharename of the shared Network Printer; e.g. \\Server1\HPLaserjet500
4. Click Next to finish adding the port.
5. Now use the "Add Printer" wizard to add a new Local printer, not a Network printer. The port is going to be the new local port you just added.

Test. On a LAN with new Epson Stylus printers connected with USB to the print server, print times were cut in half or better with this trick.
