Shared folders

I have just copied a rather large folder from my desktop to Laptop and have added several photos to this folder, is there an easy way I can copy the photos over to the desktop so I can have a back of these photos on the desktop.
Is there an easy way to compare the folders on laptop/desktop so they always have the same information ?
They connect via a wireless network. Or do I have to copy all files over again and again ?
I have called the folder the same on the desktop and laptop we want to be able to upload pictures to either machince but always have the same info on either machince.
Or wll I have to buy software to manage this task for me
