SHARED FILES LOCKED BY ANOTHER USER

We have Windows 2000 Server and are having some problems with files on the network getting locked by users after they open them.

For example, Joe opens a Word document, looks at it, does nothing to it and then closes it. Like any normal user would. However, it becomes locked up and no one else can get to it until after like 5 or 10 minutes and then it seems to unlock itself.

I am new to Windows 2000, obviously.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen this here, and would love to find a solution. It's usually excel here, and the person who opened it swears they closed it correctly, but the error message comes back it's in use by the same user. Strange. Glen A. Johnson
