Shared FAx Service

Has anyone had a problem with Shared FAx Service running on Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 2000 getting errors of "The Shared FAx Service failed to receive a fax" Event ID 32091 or 32034.When I look at the InBoxLog.txt, it suggests a "Reception error", which to me sounds like a possible hardware problem.
There is single analog telephone line in via an external D-Link DFM-560E+ modem. Which is also used for Pop3/SMTP/Internet connections. The Shared FAx is set essentially to only pick up faxes in the evening.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
