We have a Win2003 fileshare server with 2 NICS. One nic is connected to the x domain that the server is part of and the other nic is connected to the y domain that the server is not part of. The problem is we have WIN98 workstations on domain Y that need to connect to a share on the server. However this is not working and gives the error of can't find computer or share but we can ping the server. When we use an XP workstation on the Y domain we get prompted for username/password and enter credentials of our username on the X domain and get in. I am pretty sure this is an authentication issue with 98SE because it seems it does not prompt us. Anybody else have thoughts or fixes for this?
Thanks,
Noob

Might be the fact that Windows 98 is looking for the server via WINS or broadcasts whereas XP finds it via DNS.

Try editing the LMHOSTS file on your Win98 machine with name and IP of your server and see what happens.

Thats what I thought at first but we tried to edit the LMHOST file and it did not work, plus we are trying to map the share using the IP address of the server as well to avoid WINS. We also put the WIN98 machine on the LAN in which the server was part of the doamin and it worked fine. It's when we try and connect from another domain we have the problem.
