I have a group that has users in it, I set up permissions for that group to be able to write to the share on the server etc. But they can't seem to write to the drive if i don't select modify. But in selecting modify of the permissions it allows them to delete files which i do not want them too be able to do.

In a nutshell i want the users to be able to read and write to that folder but I do not want them to have delete permissions. I have went into advanced security and set up what I assumed to be those permissions but still the users can not create files on that share unless modify has been selected. Now they can delete which is not acceptable.

Please Help im getting frustrated

On the SHARE allow this group CHANGE Rights

On the NTFS Security go into advanced and choose ADVANCED. Now choose every option except for: DELETE, DElETE Subfolders and Files, Take Ownership, and Change Permissions. Apply this to Folders, subfolders, and files.

-see if this works...

Even though the Share will allow them Change (including delete), the NTFS security will restrict them not to delete. Remember When accessing the resources through a share, you must take both NTFS and Share rights into account.

-hope this helps..

On the NTFS Security go into advanced and choose ADVANCED.

I never did end up seeing the second advanced but I believe I have found where you were directing me to go. I was in the security tab and clicked advanced, then doubled clicked my group and chose edit. I then went down to the delete and unselected it but that imediately removed my modify selection on the security tab not allowing my users to write to that share......Still searching for solution

You took the correct action I was referring to.....

When you go into the Advanced security area and make modifications, the general security may look incorrect. This is because you made special security changes. Don't judge your access before you actually test it.

Try to login as one of your users and access the share. see if they can write but not delete.

The issue is that the Modify right includes DELETE. When you went into the advanced security settings, and REMOVED DELETE, you are providing access that is LESS then MODIFY. Therefore MODIFY is no longer checked. However, you still should have WRITE access to the shared location.

-hope this helps..
