Share local PST file between 2 pcs

hi,
we have an exchange 2000 server in our company that manages our emails. My boss's mail box has grew to 5 gigs and we're trying to archive some of his email to free up some space on exchange but in the same time give him and his secretary access to that archive. him and his secretary share his exchange pst file. she organizes his emails and what I want to do is somehow get some of his emails off the server to a local machine and still give him and her simultaneously access to that file. I know once a file is open by a user it will be locked and no one else can access it but maybe someone has anothe idea.

PST files in outlook cannot be opened by two people at the same time. That is why Exchange is so important. You can give access to other people to view your exchange "mailbox"


The easiest way I can think of sharing the data would be to archive the data. then leave a copy in a storage place like a server. Then copy down the Pst file to each persons computer. Then open the file as a personal folder on each persons computer.

As things get archived to the PST file on the server, you can then update the local PST files once a day, week, etc.. by overwriting the files on each persons computer.

The only glitch is that you cannot have outlook open at all while your overwriting the local machine PST File.

You might be able to get away with a Batch file program to go out to the server shared drive upon bootup and have it automaticly get the updated file for you before Outlook opens.

thanks for the input. I was hoping to find a way where both people can share the same archive or pst file so the secretary can manage him mail box and he would see the changes on his PC but I guess it's not possible.
