Instead of shading the 3D model, which only shades in solid colour dictated by the object's colour or layer colour (which makes it look a bit like children's building blocks), try Rendering the model..
With rendering, you can attach different materials to objects, add a background image and make the whole drawing look photo-real, with reflections and lighting too..
The main real disadvantage about rendering is that it's static, meaning that you can't zoon and pan around while the drawing is rendered. I'm not sure what Architectural Desktop can do but in AutoCAD, you can't do a fly-by as such.
Also, rendering takes a long time to get the drawing just right. You have to adjust everything in stages and render the drawing each time, which could take a while, depending on the size of the model..
