Hi

I am trying to sort out my IE6 problems which keeps crashing my computer. I was advised to run the System File Checker.

It discovered a number of files which it identified as being corrupted, however I have no idea what they are or how to correct them:

user.exe
mscat32.dll
setupx.dll
mssign32.dll
mssip32.dll
cryptvi.dll
cryptext.dll
cryptnet.dll
softpub.dll
msoss.dll

Does anybody know what these are or how I find out what they are and what should I do now?

Many thanks in advance.

Do a search for them (this may be in the links jmatt suggested...if they are I apologize) but what I do is search and locate them and right click and then choose properties and most of the legit Windows files will tell you more about what they do.
The ones that are not Windows files concern me.
You are correct in questioning it, tho, 'cause SFC runs the danger of overwriting something you don't want to...as they are newer because you've installed or otherwise updated something and the original file is NOT where you want to go.
(and hence are being reported as corrupt)
For Win98 I also still use a wonderful old app called Cybermedia Uninstaller...that once it's installed you can right click a questioned file and see what application files it uses and what files use it.
But that software never got updated and isn't available to 2K and XP users.
A pity, that.

If Install is used in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel when adding new programs , it will
add it to the Add/Remove list .
