I'm studying cisco currently and have about 4 routers and 2 switches. Is it possible to setup a terminal server so I can console into all my equipment rather then unplugging from one device to the other. Thanks

Ps I ask this question because I see in many online rent labs they setup a terminal server-how is this done, thanks.

setup your routers and switches with a lan ip on the ethernet and telnet to them via
a pc through a switch. Jeter@LasVegas.com

You can find a 500-CS on ebay and other places from 100- 400 bucks... 16 port terminal server.. if you are willing to play around some.. I have seen brand new IBM termservers selling for under 100.00

Lan is great until you screw up the interface config and get to it any more.. the TS is a better bet in a lab.

I personally use a 500-CS and have been quite happy with it. Right now I'm hooking my Sun SPARC to it as a headless workstation along with the routers and switches.
