I am trying to load XP Pro on a Compaq deskpro with 320 Mg Ram, PII processor and a 6.5 Gig hard drive. I have tried 4 different XP Pro Cd's and each time the setup stops at Setup is Loading Files (Kernel debugger.dll) It just sits there or I will get an error "File setupdd.sys could not be loaded. The error code is 7" and does not continue. Any ideas what is causing this. It sounds like a hardware problem since all 4 cd's do the same thing.

And, to be brutally honest with you, run Win2k and not XP on this machine.

This box does not have the right stuff to make running XP worthwhile.

I had read the link you sent so I decided to load Win98 on the machine. A while back i tried to run W2k but had trouble with that also. The Win 98 seems to be loading ok

If Compaq will not offer BIOS upgrades, Win98 seems like as far as you may be able to go with that old box.
