Hello, I received a computer from a friend a while back. All the software had been deleted. When I turn it on and try to run setup it ask for a password. I was wondering if anyone new how to find out what the password would be in setup. Is there a way around it. I can't locate the person who gave me the computer.

Thanks
Drusse

Try resetting CMOS with a jumper or unplug the PC from the wall and take out the CMOS battery for a couple of hours and put it back. Jim

Thanks, Jim that worked! Now I have another problem. I'm trying to load in Win 3.1 on this computer that everything was deleted. When I insert the first 3.1 disk and run setup it prompts me to add it to c:\. I beleive my hard drive is C:. I have a 3.5 disk drive, cd drive, and a hard drive. However I get a error " Setup is unable to create the specified directory on the specified drive". I have tried B:,D:,E: they didn't work. Any idea, what to do.

Thanks
Drusse

You have to install DOS 6.22 first. That may be your problem. Jim

You need to go back into DOS and get your filestructures set up correctly.
Get c: bootable with a config.sys containing himem.sys and an autoexec.bat containing a path for directory search.
Boot to c: then run a:\setup.
As an alternative, once you have the c: woriking, you could copy the 7 floppies to an install directory, then install from there. Much faster and easier. Ed Fair
