Setup a serial modem - How?

I read some where that it is possible to setup a serial modem using the setserial command. This I believe allows one to set the /dev/ttys value and allocate the I/O Port.<br>
<br>
If this is the case where can I find more information on the topic and would I need to redo the kernel.<br>
<br>
Lastly is there any other way by which I can acheive the same end but more easily.<br>

What I've found that works for my 3COM ISA PNP modem is to use:<br><br>setserial /dev/ttyS2 auto_irq autoconfig<br><br>this will set my modem to Com3.<br><br>

I have a Hayes Accura 56k External modem, I would like to use this on Linux - Mandrake 4 windows 6.5!. Yes I know, just trying befoer I buy. Any help would be nice, familiar with Solaris is it the same ?
