Hi all,

I am am starting to research VPN servers for use in a MAN. Some buddies and I want to share network resources. We are looking a low to no cost solutions. I know linux has some servers, but I don't know enough about them to make an educated decision on what to use. Would VPN work on Dynamic IP? I am using no-ip.com for domain names (so there is a fixed point to reference).

I don't know anything about this subject, so please keep it basic. Mike Wills

Mike,

I am assuming that you have connections to the Internet...

A good place to start is with Microsoft article 257333 (Find it in Microsoft Knowledgebase)

If each of your users has a dynamic dns service in use, then you can connect via those names.

For connecting a VPN to local area network, I use the Linksys VPN router BEFVPN41, which works pretty well - except that Win2K and XP clients don't seem to be able to connect through it dynamically. I use SSH as a client for those.
