Hi All,

I hope someone can help me. I am definitely a
Newbie to Exchange 2000.What I want to do is set up a Exchange 2000 Server
at home.

What will be the first steps? Ok. I registered my domain
name and I have a static ip. Do I have to register another
domain name...for example: mail.mydomain.com and point to my ISP DNS?

Can anyone please guide me to the right path. I am confused. Thank you for reading my email.

If you are going to use your server to handle Internet mail directly then you will need to have your ISP create a MX (Mail Exchanger) record that points all mail directed to mydomain.com to the IP address of your SMTP server.

You don't have to have an MX record, it is just handy.
The upside of an MX is you get the mail automatically.
The downside is, you have to open a port in a firewall.
You can use any popmail reader (PopCon, PopBeamer,...) to get your mail to the server.
So, if you want it to arrive there, get an MX, if your ISP is willing.
You do not need another domain name. You can have at 1 place, mail@yourdomain.com at home, ftp.yourdomain.com yet at another place.
What you cannot do is have mail for your domain point to 2 places, so if you already get mail to your domain, you must either change it to your new server or get a new domain.
