Setting up Contribute Publishing Server with AD

I'm having a *insert something here* of a time getting CPS connected to ActiveDirectory.
As soon as I add User Search Branch DN, I get "Error connecting to LDAP server." when testing on the Test tab.

Is there a good resource on getting things set up right, specifically for ActiveDirectory? The standard help that came with it is generic at best, and doesn't provide the info I need.
