Hi Guys,

Iam bit new to setting up legato, we got two backups groups for example
daily: full on saturday and followed by incremental for the week.
weekly: full on sunday and skips the rest.
Both groups have the same clients. Instead of running two full, can I clone "daily" just the full backup for the "weekly". Also can I automate this process. I would really appreciate any help. thank you in advance..

A clone is the copy of the backup. 2 full backups will not necessarily have the same result.

I so not think that two fulls over the weekend make sense at all but you have to decide.

Best practice would be, instead of setting the schedule for each client individually, that you set the schedule at the group.

change your setup like this :
create a schedule named Daily with incremental Backups from monday to Friday ans skips at the weekend.
Select this schedule in the configutation of group daily.

create a second schedule weekly with skips every day except on saturdays. Saturday you mak a full backup.
select thi schedule in the properties if group weekly.
Select the cloning=yes attribute with the group weekly and select an appropriate clone pool as an target.
Every client is a member in both groups.

But keep im mind you need at least two backup devices foir this setup to work.

If you want it simple...
Why not have one group for all, called standard.
Have one schedule assigned to the group, called standard and set your backup levels (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur Fri = INCR and Sat = FULL). Have two pools, one for incrementals and one for fulls. On the Sunday you could run an nsrclone command on the FULL pool to clone all completed savesets that have a copy value of less than 2 (or three if the primary copy goes to AFTD). This nsrclone command could be scheduled to run whenever you like as the clone process does not hit the client, it simply makes a copy of your backups. But make no mistake, Legato has some caviats with the cloning process when you need to read from a device that is currently being written too, you cant do it even if its AFTD in some cases.

hi guys,

thank you very much for your help. I am running a test: created two groups called daily and weekly. two shedules for the groups as suggested by a060463xyz.. Created one pool for both the groups, when I try to change the pool type to backup clone i get a erro message "server name: No Selection criterion are allowed for clone pools".. I am not sure what this error message is related to, i would appreciate any help. thanks guys

A clone pool does not really sort data. So deselect all filter criteria in
- groups
- clients
- save sets
- levels
and uncheck the "store index entries" option.
