I have a printer on my Lan where my Unix system also resides. It has a static IP address, and I have already placed it in my /etc/hosts file with a name and the IP address. I can actually now ping it from a prompt by name. How do I set up Unix to be able to use this printer?

If this printer is connected to the lan via a HP JetDirect card, simply use the HP stuff bundled with OSR:
Code:
scoadmin > Printer Manager > HP Network Print Services Manager
and then the hpnp package is installed choose:
Code:
HP Network Printer Manager

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it is on a Netgear Print Server device, NOT HP. Can anyone help?

You have to know if this Print Server supports the LPR/LPD protocol and, if so, the name of the print queue.
Then you go to the printer manager to add a remote unix printer.
The server name is the name in /etc/hosts of the netgear.
The printer name is the name of the print queue.
You have to deselect the Extended protocol.
