I already have a router radiating a wireless internet connection, but I want the laptops in my house to be able to print off the printer connected via wires to my main desktop, I would also like to share files etc. How do I do this?

Thanks!

Are all Laptops & PC´s connected via wireless or wire?

If yes, does your router act as DHCP?
Are all Laptops/PC´s network settings set to "Get IP address from DHCP"?

If all is yes then share the printer on your PC and install the networkprinter on all other PC´s/Laptops.

... printing will only work, if PC with printer is switched on ;-)

The main PC is connected via wire, while the laptops are connected via wireless.

I have no idea if it acts as a DHCP!

Again I don't know if the network settings are set to that.

But I mean, how do I actually set up the network?

So you are able to access the internet from all stations.

Then your network is already set up.

On your PC go to Start - Settings - Printers (and Faxes). Right click on the printer and select Sharing. Then select "Shared as" and click OK.

Go to Laptop

Click again on Start - Settings - Printers (and Faxes). Select Add Printer - Click Next - Select Network Printer - Click Next - Click Next - Now the shared printer should appear and you are ready to install it on the laptop...

I set the printer to be shared, but neither my Apple (On OS X) or my Vaio (On XP), could find a printer. I haven't actually set up a network though, my router just allows these computers to connect to it.
