Ok...I have a few questions about racks, cabinets and components. Need to run some issues by you guys and gals.

First...would having a rack for a home network be overkill?

Here is my goal network:

16 port Linksys Switch (for those larger LAN parties)

Will be running 2-3 systems: 1 for gaming, 1 as a server (Web, FTP, e-mail, etc), and one as a data storage server.

I currently have an 850 Duron system that I may turn into the file server for now. I will be purchasing a new AMD ClawHAmmer system once that new CPU is available.

Questions:

1. Are the Rack mount chassis compatible with regular ATX motherboards?

2. Is a regular equipment rack suitable for this sort of task or would I need to purchase a cabinet?

3. Any tips, or tricks to cut cost on this? Any ideas for a better solution?

4. Should I just Run 3 seperate systems in regular cases?

Thanks for any input you can give...

You can get rack mount for ATX.

19" equipment racks are fine for this. Cabinet with doors might be nice , but overkill.

I have 2 mini desktop systems on slide out shelves and 2 printers on fixed shelves, plus an area for DSR, router, and hub at the top of a 72" cabinet and it sure cuts down on the cabling mess.

I'm running 4 systems , with 2 as towers on either side of a desk, a riser for the monitor, and power centers and KVM switch under the riser. Works fine for me, but this is the way I work, not necessarily good for anybody else. Ed Fair
