Setting up a printer

I have a P166 with a parallel port Zip drive and a HP 890C piggy backed off of the zip drive. Linux recognizes the zip no problem. I can mount zip disks as volumes and read the data. When I "cat /proc/devices" no lp is listed yet the module shows that it is loaded in the COAS. When I " dmesg ¦ less " it actually lists my printer as an HP 890C, then says lp is loaded and no devices found. Can anyone please direct me to configuring this correctly?<br>
