Is there any way of adding a group to the share and security permissions of multiple folders at the same time?
My problem is with user folders. I have several hundred of them and I want to add a group called Supervisors to the share and security permissions for each folder. Is there a way fo doing this without right clicking each folder individually and going through the Explorer motions??

I know that you can select multiple folders at a time, but this complains that the permissions are different and do you want to make them the same. Obviously, as they are user folders, I don't.

Any advice would be appreciated.

:)

You'll have to play with this a little to get the syntax correct but you can use CACLS from the command line. I know you need the /E switch to edit the ACL instead of replacing it but I don't remember the exact syntax to add a group to each one. Do a CACLS /? to get all options.

I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....

CACLS is the command that you need. If you have trouble with the syntax look in the knowledge base, Q162786 and Q131780 should answer your questions.

Many thanks guys.

Is there a way of changing the share permissions of a folder, either a new folder or an existing one from the command prompt?

:)
