I have just tried to change the enable password on 2 routers between a leased line but it didnt make any difference.

I have found the following in the config

no service password-encryption
no service udp-small-servers
no service tcp-small-servers
!
hostname routerb
!
enable password password
!
username farna password 0 password
username farnb password 0 password

What I really want is to get rid of all this and just have the one enable password. I have already set up the secret password which is secure.

Would putting no before the 2 lines work and then setting a new enable password be ok?

thanks

username farna password 0 password
username farnb password 0 password

those specify what you can login to the router with. Say if you were using the command "login local" on the vty's or console or whatever..

enable password password

that specifies your enable password..

using the 'no' before the usernames would get rid of them, then you need to do a command like 'enable password (password) or enable secret (password)'

hope this helps
