i've had diffculty setting the default
encoding in internet explorer 5

my web page consists of chinese characters
which i retrieved it in microsoft access
and i wanted to view it in my (asp)web page

i found out from the net that in order
to view chinese characters in my web site
i have to change the default language in
regional settings(win 2000) to chinese
simplfied

however, i have to set the encoding manually
from "view" then select "encoding" then
"simplifed chinese" in internet explorer in order for the page to display chinese characters

its very troublesome for users to manually
change the encoding for every page that displays chinese characters

anyone here has any suggestions?

Its a very bad idea to use characters that visitors might not be able to view without meddling with their browser settings. I would avoid where possible using something like chinese characters. If theres only a small number of them why not compile them into an image or series of images?

Maybe you could set the Auto Select to ON. You can also add a Language Encoding button to your toolbar to make switching between languages quicker.
