Setting default directory in PM 6.5

Hello,
What do you refer to as the "directory"? I'm not sure if the following is what you refer to so if not let me know what the directory is.
If you mean the preferences then do this...
Open pagemaker with no documents open.
Open the preferences and set them as you wish.
All new documents will now have these setting.

Thanks for your response. In my office, the files that I use are found on the O drive in the Data sub directory of the 15c directory: O\15c\data\Umptyfratz.p65 I want to set the default, where PM 6.5 looks each time I tell it to Open a file, as O:\15c\Data. Currently, I have to navigate from C:\PM65\ to O:\ to O:\15c\ to O:\15c\Data. Can't PM just open up in O:\15c\Data ?? The Preferences command on my system only applies to Measurement, Font Mapping, Color Management, Internet locations, etc. X-)

Here's the answer to my question. In Windoze, right click on the desktop icon (shortcut) you use to launch PM. Go to Properties>Short Cut>Start In and enter the directory path you want PM to open and work in. This is a fairly straight up Windows procedure. I was just expecting some sort of magical Adobe feature that I had to set in the PM preferences. LOL

Am I correct in assuming that you are working with PM over a netwrok, and that O:\15C is a mapped drive? If so, a word of warning.
Working over a network with PM (or any DTP app) is a corrupted document waiting to happen. PM is like an advanced relation database, and working on files over a network can cause corruption to your document index. I do it myself, and know many people that do work over a network out of necessity. But if you must, here are some tips.
First, copy all files locally, edit locally, and then copy back to network. Editing over the network removes many of the built in error corrections that Windows performs when working locally. PM has no built in error correction schema.
Second, save, save as, save smaller rather than save faster, and make sure you have redundant back up copies. Once a document gets corrupted, discard it and revert back to the last good copy you saved as.
Also, working locally you will find work much faster when editing complex projects.
