We have a machine running Windows XP Professional that is connected to a NetWare 5.0 network. The machine is running Novell Client 4.9 SP2.

How would I go about setting this machine to require a login to the local workstation AFTER logging in to Novell, as we would like to restrict access to this particular machine to certain individuals, not just anyone with a Netware login.

Our web server is set similar. After you enter your Netware user name and password at the Client screen, a "Windows Workstation" box pops up requesting for you to log in with a LOCAL user ID and password, however, one of the district techs set this up, and I do not know how to configure the setting.

Thanks for you help.

This occurs as standard on W2k and XP. You will always require a login to the local workstation unless you are running Dynamic Local User which will create the local account for you on login. If no local user exists, you will be prompted to enter a local username and password.

If you just login locally to your PC and setup a local username and password, then on login when someone types in their NetWare username and password, they should be prompted to login locally and they can then type in their local username and password. If DLU is active, you will have to remove Workstation Manager from the PC.

What about NW6, we are having loads of trouble with windows logins, after the user has logged into netware. We are using DLU, we have zen 4, do I need to unload workstation manager, (is this part of the agent install)?

What version of the NetWare Client are you using? Please can you detail your trouble further...

zen agent is seperate from the client in zfd 4
make sure workstation manager is ok and then refresh the zen agent
you can check this from your zen washing machine on the taskbar

running 4.9sp1a, We use DLU for the students their profile is removed when they log out, for teachers it stays. We are getting prompted to put in the windows username even thought the client is set for initial Novell login. This problem has been going since Xmas, just when we think we have solved it, it rears up again. We thought it was a wrong version of zenpol32.dll, but that has been tried again and again. Not sure what to try next, I wish we had never gone to XP Pro we were find on win2k.
