Hi Friends,

How to set root password to 13 Character.
As it is 8 Characters now i want to give 13 chartectes for the root password.
I had given 13 Characters , but it is checking for 8 Character and after 8 Character if i give wrong also passwd its logging in.. pl help me out how to fix this on solaris 8 sunfire systems.

is that solaris os supports only 8 Characters for passwd ?
if no ? How to give 13 Characters to my root password.

As far as I know, Solaris has a maximum password length of 8 characters, any after that being ignored (as you have discovered!). Trusted Solaris may be different, but I have no experience of that. Similarly there may be third-party tools that others may be able to advise on. Sorry this isn't much help at this stage!

you could install/change to use PAM; with PAM you can define your pasword rules (I never used this but just google for "Solaris PAM" or check
Best Regards, Franz
