Hi

I have a few questions re the configuration of a shared volume on a NT Server to be accesiable by our two MAC's

1) Is it worth the trouble ? - I have seen quite a few postings about the server being crashed by the Mac, I only require the shared volume to aid the transfer of files between our two Mac's and maybe some limited storage.

2) When I attempted to install services for macintosh, I was not able to select a "zone" as none were avaliable from the drop down menu - it seems to me that if I want to set-up a "zone" I have to have a Appletalk router, If I want the NT server to act as the router I have to configure the routing tab to "seed" the neetwork but it would not allow me to do this as it wanted a (non IP) network range?

Can anyone clarify the "zone" and routing element - I have a feeling that I may have got the wrong end of the stick somewhere along the line...

Regards

Graham

a lot of companies don't use zones any more (think of subnets). Ignore that. Don't let it act as a router. Everything then works fine.

Make sure your Macs are 8.5 or higher as the IP stack is better. Ensure TCPIP is set to advanced and not set to only use when required.

Then share out your relevant volume remembering that it will only see the first 2GB of the volume.

To support it better, run W2K as this supports the Macs a lot better.
