I have a stable windows (XP pro SP2) environment. Everything seems to be running smoothly, however, recently Services.exe wants to be active on the internet for hours - I see this from Zonealarm. I have now blocked access to the internet for services.exe
Does anyone know what exactly is the activity of services.exe and if it sometimes needs to connect for long periods of time. I don't want to be paranoid, but I just have not seen this behaviour before.
I have swept for pests(updated pestpatrol v.4) and viruses(updated etrust antivirus v.7)and all is clear.

review your ports activity and see what is going on.

some of the traffic can be your modem "talking" to your isp and the normal internet traffic. it could also be your virus software, firewall, or if the mfg has a support module then it could be that.

there are many reasons (normal) for services to be connecting to the internet.

what is MFG?

gpalmer711,
i just looked at the virus "services.exe" and found how to spot it.

- this is not the legitimate services.exe process, which should not appear in Msconfig/Startup![\quote]

thanks for the heads up, i had not encountered this before.
