The following Service Pack keeps re-installing itself over and over. Is there any way to stop it, and why does it do that? I've had this happen before with other updates, and eventually they do quit. What causes this? Here is what is re-installing itself over and over:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)

Thanks.

What do you mean by reinstalling itself? Is it prompting you that it needs to be installed or is it actually installing itself on its own? Is it failing after the install? Is it from a Windows update? If so try and see if you can find the update to dowload it manually and install it that way.

What I meant was this: I have automatic updates turned on. I get notification that there is an update ready. I download it, then it asks me if I want to install. I click yes. When it's complete, it gives me a message saying the install is complete. A few minutes later, I get another notification saying an update is ready. It is the same update. I've downloaded and installed this same update three times. The last time, I told automatic updates to ignore this update forever. However, this has happened in the past with other updates. I just wondered if this is a Microsoft problem, or if I should completely turn off automatic updates. It shows up in the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs as installed. Thanks.

If Memory Serves, that update requires .Net to be installed on the PC, if it isn't then it "returns" .... try going to Windows Update chossing custom and "hiding" the update.

Thanks. That is what I did, and that works. I might want to get .NET. Looks interesting.................
