Service Pack 3a installed - MMC.EXE not opening!!!

Hi there

I have a Windows XP Pro running with MS SQL SERVER 2000 Personal Edition runnning on my machine.

Just updated it with SP3a from website.

However, now my MMC and Query Analyser fail to open. It looks like they are just hanging. I get an error message for MMC.EXE - the usual send error report or dont send error report dialogue box.

Can anyone help?

Try reinstalling the client tools.

We have some XP PCs that have given the "Microsoft Mgmt Console has encountered an error..." message when user tried to open Ent Mgr.

I resolved the situation by deleting the file in

c:\Docs and Settings\your name..\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC\

In the MMC folder, deleted both files, SECPOL and SQL Server Enterprise Manager. If you dont have the SECPOL file dont worry about it.

The SQLServer Enterprise Manager file will get recreated next time you open EM. Maybe it got corrupted somehow.
