I was wondering if anyone here has any involment with service contracts on PC's.
What is covered, cost of same etc.

cost is 4% of purchase price and up per month , mostly up, for parts replacement coverage. Covers replacement of parts that fail in normal use. Does not cover consumables or troubles caused by "ACT OF GOD" or customer created.
Software support is a whole different ballgame with completely different scorecard.
You realize that service contracts are insurance contracts for the customer and the company providing the coverage is an insurance company and insurance companies hardly ever lose money.
And if you look at most contracts you'll find that there are all sort of wiggle out loopholes for the service supplier.
I recommend to my customers that they put the money they would spend on maintenance contracts into the bank each month to use for repairs when they are needed and use what is left over for a year-end party. Improves employee morale.
But if one absolutely has to have one, I'll write it. Ed Fair

I work for a company (who will remain nameless) that services many different warranty companies. Most of the companies cover the same things and they are pretty good about covering things, the only exception would be cpu fans, some don't cover consumable items (items that are more to ship than to buy). The biggest complaint I hear is that the tech. support they have to go through to get me out there is tough. They also have in-home service or where you have to drop it off at the store. In-home is faster and easier. In all fairness I will have to say that in the past year they have gotten better about what they will cover and the speed of the technician getting your part. The cost is about $200 for 3-4 years. I do know they absolutely don't cover solftware issues.
Good luck,
Advice from your in-home technician! hee he he
