Service Broker: Example runs but no output

I am trying to learn how to work with Service Broker. I've found several examples, the simplest was from SQL Server Central:

The example runs successfully, but doesn't return the message from the queue. As near as I can tell, the message never makes it to the queue. Event Viewer doesn't show any errors or warnings. Service account is domain admin.

Any one have an idea what would prevent a message from entering the queue?
