server reboot problem...

may it be this process crashed the OS? :-/
if the known security and recommended patches are
applied there are usually only two possibilities:
1. you found a new security hole
2. something really bad happened and the kernel died
Any more information?

Does the system crash and reboot, or does it perform a clean shutdown? You should be able to tell from /var/adm/messages just before the boot up messages. Also check whether a crash dump has appeared in /var/crash/hostname. Annihilannic.

The answer to your question is yes, there are third-party applications which are not running as root which will crash your system. One client I manage is running WebSphere and DB2 client and there is a memory leak which we are currently researching. Over time memory on this server continues to increase, which has caused the server to crash.
