Ok, so this has been going on for weeks now...And I am at a complete loss as to why.

My environment consists of 2 Win2k Servers Running AD. One is being used for a file server while the other is an application server.

The problem I am having is the file server, will every few days will just drop all connections. All users get disconnected, and cannot reconnect until I restart the server. Nothing adverse ever shows up in the event logs. And I mean nothing. No warnings or errors. As for the info's, they are the normal ones you get when a server starts up.

I have no problems with the app server. Replication between the two seems fine.

I have tried switching on and off the Global Catalog, no change. One thing that did seem to make some difference is I moved the role of the Schema Master from the App to the File server, the drops became more frequent. As in every other day. When the app server is the Schema Master, the file server drops about every 4-6 days as compared to 1-3 days.

System Specs are:
* Dual Athlon 1.8 GHz
** IDE Raid
2 GB Ram.

With around 20 users on the network, I don't think this is a load problem.

Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

Btw, I inherited this network. As for the Dual Athlon & IDE Raid, I would have gone for Dual P3\P4 or even better Xoen as well as SCSI Raid. So the hardware choices were not mine. :)

hi,

1)check the lsasrv

2)when the server drops the connectios you can connect from the server to the app server?

see in microsoft site for some info.

hope its helps

Thanks coco10 for the reply.

I ended up replacing the NIC. No problems since.

I'm having the same problem and it just started yesterday. 1 client had the server become unresponsive, had to turn it off to sort it, happens 2-3 times a day. Then today i've had another client have exactly the same problem.

Updated the Symantec AV and ran full scans etc. MS say there is a fault but it should have been fixed with SP4.

If you have any more info or if your new NIC doesn't sort it, let me know.

Cheers
Paul
