Happened pre sp1, with sp1 and twice today with sp2. The gui on the server occasionally hangs when in or opening up active directory. Services run for a short while but eventually stop or seem to. Can't term serv in, won't connect. Must do a hard reboot. As this is the only server on the curriculum side, I work at schools, the teachers get somewhat annoyed.

system: adaptec 19160 scsi card, Sony sdt-7000 dds2, P3 1Ghz, 4 x quantum 9Gb's, Asus cuv4x mobo, 256 pc133 RAM.

How many other DC's are on the network? Are they set to replicate at regular intervals? James Collins

None, It's the only server on the curriculum side. There is a nt4 server on admin that can see curric (using host files or wins), but curric cannot see admin. The State department set up the router so....

Can you explain the network setup a little more? How is the network set up? Any trusts? No central authentication? James Collins

Network is: 1 win2k server, 1G4 mac server, 9x and mac clients. The mac and 9x clients map to shares on the 2000 box. Using Mac Manager on the G4 with individual logons, each mac machine has a user a/c so no a/c gets logged on twice at the same time. Mac manager hates this. These a/c's and p/words are matched on the 2000 box.
2000 box is running proxy, IIS, DNS, DHCP(for macs and 9x), 3rd party print monitoring software (Gaia print charge), Failsafe II UPS and CD Quickshare (virtual cd-rom stuff). Protocols are tcp/ip and appletalk.
1 domain, no trusts.
Soz for rambling, home with cold today :(

Just and update, It happened again bout 1/2 hour ago. However, clients still logging on, printing, proxy etc, seem to be working. The GUI on the server is hung, however and can't terminal in! Frustrating!!
