What is a good general rule to follow for servers, for example is it good practice to have the SQL Server and the Web Server on the same machine, or say, Domain Controller and Exchange Server, or is it Better to keep them all on seperate systems?

Domain Controller
Web Server
Exchange
SQl
ISA

Thanks in advance, this is driving me crazy since I want to have a good expandable infastructure, I have to redesign how I have things now since I got hacked pretty badly recently and am going to deploy the ISA server and am trying to reconfigure how I have the other machines, I currently have the (web server + SQL), (Domain + Exchange + DNS), and another secondary DNS server.

Thanks again,
D

ISA Server should be on it's own. I think you could probably have your Exchange server and Domain controller together. Is the web server for the public? If yes, I would put a 3rd NIC in my ISA server and set that up as a DMZ for the web server. You could then have the SQL server and maybe another domain controller as the last server.

Of course, all of this is without knowing how many users you have, how much activity, how big of a SQL database, what the webserver is doing. All of these things could impact upon any recomendation.

Thank you Dan, Exhange has about 50 users, and I host websites, usually just small companies about 10 so far.

The SQL server will work for the web servers and the internal users (about 20).

Am I correct how the ISA server is setup? how about the static IP's, is that all setup on the ISA server?

thanks a bunch,
Dale

You can publish the web server throught the ISA using the wizards. Same with the Exchange.
