Is it possible to place your own fonts on the web server and use that font on your pages even if the client doesn't have them installed on their PC?

Yeah you sure can.
Try Microsofts Web Embedding Font Tool.
Kinda nifty, takes but a second for the client to download the font.
Which btw, there are only about 4 or 8 "true" fonts that every user has. "Insert witty remark here"
