I've searched and couldn't find anything like this. I'm trying to backup a folder with 985 files. I've tried copying it to another hd and to another partition on the same drive. It crashes on both. I am running IDE hds for now and can't do anything about it for awhile. it's done this in the past too so I don't think it has something to do with the certain files.

any suggestions?

thanks
Andy

Okay I've had this problem on certain systems. The system kind of gets overloaded and bogs down. It seems to have alot to do with running things in the OS.. I've had alot of success with systems like this by copying outside of windows.. using a utility like DriveImage. Or even taking the drives out of their enviroment and hooking them up to another PC as a slave...

my problem is I need to backup a program nightly. the program is always running in the background so my backup won't back it up. I have created a batch file that will copy the program folder to a different location and back it up from there. but, as I said while transferring the system crashes.

Any other suggestions?

thanks
Andy

Maybe you are experiencing crashes because th program that is running in backgroups puts a lock on the files that you are trying to copy ? Maybe try closing the program and then try to copy the same files to see if it works.
