I have a question relating to server backup. We currently have 2 web servers connected to a 6509, we need to configure it so that it uses a primary web server and in the event of that failing switches over to the backup server. We have a CSM module and have been investigating the possablilty of using the SLB element but is more geared to balancing and not redudancy.

Correct, the CSM module is a load balancer as opposed to a redundancy solution. What are your objectives exactly? Do you want to synchronise data between the two servers?

yes correct CSM is indeed for load balacing, but the requirement is to service one server until full or down then switch to the other.
