hello everyone - i am currently studying and using an evaluation copy of win 2k3 from the w2k3 msft cert. kit. I have the server connected to the net and am looking if you have any suggestions on what antivirus i can use. Obviously i am looking for a free one here but if you guys know of any paid ones i guess i'll take those opinions as well. I checked avg but they don't offer a server one or you need to pay for that...thanks for the help.

Well Sophos is superb and i can highly recommend using it. If this is someone else’s server e.g. your employers i would recommend against using free AV on the grounds of due diligence if you get caught our by a nasty virus and you chose a cheap AV solution they won’t be impressed. Reassuringly expensive is a term i heard somewhere.

If you are looking for a cheaper solution then Norman do a good package and apparently this is what MS use.

Both my employeer and the company I consult with, as well as a couple of friends companies use Trend Micro for servers and workstations. They have a 30 day demo (I think).
