I have 2003 Server with SQL 2000/SP4 installed on it. The problem is from the import/export wizard none of the other boxes can be seen to copy data from. The other SQL boxes are XP with SQL 2000/SP4. I've used the Sec Config Wizard and still nothing, I've open almost everything. The only thing I can find is under the SEC CONFIG DATABASE is:

SQL
Description: A SQL client accesses and stores data on a remote SQL Server.
Status: Installed, disabled

Where can I enable this or is this the acuaul problem? All boxes can see and ping each other from Windows.

What happens when you type in the name of the other server in the drop down list of the import/export list?

Comes back with a message stating that the other box counld not be found or user could not be authenticated. From the other boxes all machines show in the dropdown.

From the Enterprise Manager on the problem server can you register the other SQL Servers?

I am able to register the server but what whould stop the servers from showing in the drop down list? Now I see that a Standard version of SQL 2000 is running on the 2k3 box and the others have Enterprise, would this cause a problem as well?

Thanks

No that wouldn't matter. It could be any number of things that cause the drop down to not show up. There could be a firewall, network settings, subnetting, router config is blocking the broadcast request, etc.

When you click on the drop down Enterprise Manager does a broadcast request across the network that SQL Servers will reconize and respond to. Anything that responds will be populated. If nothing respondes back the list will be empty.
