If my mouse port is corrupt, can I just put an adapter on it
that converts to serial connection...or do I need to update any software or anything?

Hi. I don't know what you mean by "corrupt". If you mean broken, no. Perhaps you could explain your problem a little more thoroughly? Don Swayser

hello sir.,

suppose you are going to use the seperate card for your serial commnication, you first disable the onboard com1, com2. then connect your mouse in the new card

The mouse port has something physically wrong...I can't plug in the mouse. Didn't know if I could just plug in an adapter.

Hi Barbara, I tried to e-mail you but it bounced back as being undeliverable. Yes you can use the adapter. I've used one several times. You probably do need to disable the com port in the BIOS. There's another problem though. The operating system will be looking for a bus mouse, not a serial device. Make a boot disk, you may need it. Boot from it so you know you can reach your cd from the commad line. You may have to reinstall Windows. Boot normally. Open Start/Control Panel/System. You be looking at the device manager. Highlight the mouse and remove it. Open Add Hardware. Let the system try to find it. It should. If it doesn't reboot. It might find the mouse on its own.
