Serial Cards

I have 2 computers with Serial Cards (Equinox). When the computer is rebooted, these cards disappear out of Device Manager. The computer then needs to be rebooted several times before the card will reappear and the serial ports become available?

Both computers are new, and have reloaded Windows XP.
Still the problem exists

Does the card have any jumpers for setting I/O and IRQ? Assuming it's a PCI card, try allocating an IRQ to the relevant motherboard slot number, if you're able to.
