We have cisco 2950 and 2960 router. We have our switches connected via a private fiber line throughout the city. Our owner wants to connect a second business onto our fiber, but we dont want to buy the switch since they already have one. We do however want to keep them separate by running them on their own vlan. They already have their own Cisco 2950 on their own network. If we add the fiber gbics to that switch and put it on our fiber, will it detect our vlans and work off of them?
I guess my real question is simply, if someone puts a switch on our network and I have a vlan server on the network, will their switch recoginize my vlans? How does one switch know if the other is part of our network?
