Separate Backup Network

Hi,

We recently moved from ArcServe to BackupExec. We have the latest 11d with SP1. All of our servers has a second NIC in the back with GB, and so I figured I would use a GB switch and setup a separate "backup network" to minimise normal network traffic.

There is even a switch in 11d that allows you to focus traffic on a specific subnet and IP range. Selecting this seems to work sometimes, but at key moments, and specifically on our main data server, it fails with a communication error.

If you look in the debug logs you can see the connection between servers is setup nicely... but then any traffic after that initial connection fails!!

This is driving me crazy, and the E0### transaction logs are beginning to loom heavily with only a few GB spare on the mail server. I need a successful backup soon, and our normal 100MB network is just too slow (last time we tried, a full backup took almost 4 days!!).

Has anyone set up a separate network for backup traffic only? Someone must have! If it is an option in BackupExec, then someone must have asked for it at some point.

ANy info to help me get this owrking would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Will
